What we offer

We seek 5 advanced postdocs who already have ca. 2 years of research experience and who want to advance their careers in an inspiring environment that fosters interdisciplinary approaches. They will receive a full postdoc salary for a minimum of 3 years. Eight of them will be based at the Ruhr University Bochum (www.rub.de) and four will be based at the University Duisburg-Essen (www.uni-due.de). They will have the opportunity to engage in innovative research, to actively collaborate with PIs in both universities, and to cultivate their academic skills in a vibrant and stimulating environment with a plethora of possibilities to engage in prestigious collaborative research consortia. Both universities offer a wide range of structural measures to foster diversity, equality, and a family-friendly work environment. We also provide mentoring and support for grant writing. This program is funded by the Mercator Center Ruhr (MERCUR).

Applicants should have an excellent PhD in a research topic related to neuroscience, psychology, or philosophy of mind and should already have published in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals. The postdoc positions offer a focus on research only (no teaching or administration). It is encouraged and supported that the successful candidate will submit a grant proposal to establish her/his own research group during the postdoctoral period.

Applications should be send to thinkatruhr@ruhr-uni-bochum.de and consist of the following documents in one PDF file: CV; research statement; certificates and records; list of publications and talks; and names of 2 referees. Furthermore, the two best publications (published or accepted) should be attached. The research statement should outline your research proposal plan for a competitive peer-reviewed grant during your postdoc period in maximally 3 pages (excluding references). Please explicitly describe the connections of this proposal to one or more of the THINK@Ruhr research questions outlined on What We Research. The candidates will associate themselves with one or more faculty members who are named there. We welcome proposals that provide bridges between two of the project proposals. Deadline of application is September 18, 2022, starting  at the earliest, first contract duration is three years.

THINK@Ruhr will foster and support any research activities of the postdocs. Our universities offer attractive academic career track options and family friendly conditions. Ruhr University Bochum and University of Duisburg-Essen are committed to promoting the careers of women and minority groups and therefore strongly welcome applications from respective candidates. As an equal opportunities employer, we also encourage applications from suitably qualified disabled candidates.
